With our baby coming imminently, I have put a large amount of research into some baby travel essentials that might make it easier for us to continue traveling. To save you some time, I decided to make a post about some of the items I have found and why I chose them.
With our baby’s arrival still upcoming, this isn’t a formal review since we haven’t tried these products out yet. Rather, it is an overview of a few travel-friendly baby products and reasons why we chose them to suit our non-rev life – now including a baby!
1. UPPababy Minu V3 Travel Stroller
There were several features that made this stroller appealing. We didn’t want a bulky stroller taking up our entire trunk since we both drive sedans, and we also wanted something practical for travel. This stroller looked like the ideal solution for a single stroller that would work for both everyday use and for trips.
It has a one-hand fold and is pretty lightweight at just under seventeen pounds. It folds compactly, and you can also buy a protective travel bag that is covered under warranty. It is usable from birth and can be paired with a number of different car seats using adapters.
We decided to pair it with the Nuna car seat since it was rated the highest for safety. The stroller rolls extremely smoothly and has a decent amount of storage capacity underneath. It also has a handy carrying strap.
2. Boppy ComfyFit Adjust Hybrid Baby Carrier
We thought that there might be occasions in which we didn’t want to bring the stroller for a quick trip. As a solution to this, we picked out a baby carrier. With this, we’d be able to easily navigate a city with public transportation while baby-wearing and avoiding the hassle of lugging around a stroller.
This particular carrier was affordable, seems easy to wear, and packs small. You can carry the baby in three different positions depending on their size. It also came in a gender-neutral gray so either of us would be comfortable using it.
3. Travel Diaper Bag Backpack by Babbleroo
Knowing how uncomfortable a heavy single-strapped purse can be to lug around while traveling, I knew we’d want a backpack diaper bag. This one came in a gender-neutral color, making it ideal to share the burden of carrying baby things.
It has numerous pockets, including a pacifier holder and insulated pockets for drinks. It also features built-in stroller straps and an anti-theft pocket. The bag also comes with a washable changing pad and is waterproof and tear-resistant. This backpack seemed like a good solution for diaper changes while on the go.
4. Infant Car Seat Travel Bag SINVICKO
For trips involving car transit, we would need to bring our infant car seat. Knowing how gross airports/planes can be, we wanted to have a protective cover for the car seat to keep it from getting too dirty while on the go, especially since the car seat was one of the more expensive items on our registry.
This option happened to be much more affordable than the name-brand Nuna travel bag. Time will tell if this purchase is worth it or unnecessary.
5. UPPababy Bag for Minu
As mentioned with the stroller, we decided to get the name-brand bag for flying with the stroller. It is guaranteed for air travel, so we thought it was worth going with the official bag to help protect the stroller since it was a splurge item.
Additional Thoughts on Baby Travel Essentials and Traveling with a Baby
In some instances, it may be more convenient to rent a car seat with a rental car if renting a car was already part of the travel plans. There were some recommended baby travel essentials that we decided to forgo. We decided against a portable noise machine and instead downloaded a free white noise app on our phones. We figured this would be one less thing to bring and would work well enough for the job.
For car travel when staying with family, we registered for a Graco Pack ‘n Play Day2Dream Travel Bassinet Playard. We thought it would be helpful to have a portable sleeping space for visiting family for holidays or other occasions. We also plan on using it in our room as a bassinet in the newborn phase. It will also be usable through toddlerhood, as it functions as a play-yard.
For hotels, we would probably opt to call ahead and make sure they offered a crib solution before booking. In our experience, it’s always easier to travel light. I am also hoping to avoid bringing bottles and all of the necessary sanitizing equipment and instead feed him directly with a cover-up.
